Olly Bould reports on a hard fought win over Widnes

Kidsgrove edge closer to the play-off places as they get all three points after a tense end to the game after both sides saw red.

Kidsgrove started the game well and got their reward as in the ninth minute, the ball fell to the feet of Will Saxon who took the shot on first time and he slotted it into the bottom corner to give Kidsgrove an early lead.

Kidsgrove continued to dominate but no real chances to trouble Cameron Terry in the Widnes goal.

Widnes came close to an equaliser halfway through the first half as a ball over the top found strike Will Jones, who's strike was past Sam Booth the Kidsgrove keeper but it hit the post and booth collected it.

There was not much action in the rest of the first half, the best was to Kidsgrove when a Lewis Bergin free kick was hit well on the keepers side and Terry made a good save to go into half time only one goal down.

Ten minutes into the second half and Kingsley Adu-Gyamfi had a great chance to put Kidsgrove two goals in-front when Saxon plays a good through ball to him, he was one on one with the keeper but the keeper made a good save down to his right to deny him.

However, five minutes later he got his goal, a good run from Aaron Bott on the counter attack and he plays a peach of a ball to Adu-Gyamfi who takes a touch then files it into the net to double Kidsgrove's lead.

The game got heated only four minutes later when Bergin was fouled by Luke Sephton and the aftermath earned themselves both a red card and both teams were no down to ten men.

With half an hour still the play, it was looking to be a tense second half for Kidsgrove and it got more tense when Widnes got a gaol back through Jay Roberts who hit the ball on the half volley after Ernst Ofosu missed his clearance.

Widnes pilled on the pressure, with Kidsgrove having to dig deep and hold on to their lead for the last twenty minutes plus added time.

Despite the pressure from Widnes there was nothing to trouble Booth in the Kidsgrove goal and Scott Dundas's men got themselves all three points.
